What Kind of Pipe are You?

We should probably start off with what the heck even makes up a pipe? Now, I know many readers have probably made their own out of some crazy things (watch for the next Blog post for THAT one!) but bear with me, okay?

Our basic pipe components are the bowl, stem, a mouthpiece, and most of the time a carburetor/choke/whatever your term is for the whole in the pipe's side that is closed while the bowl is being lit and is released to smoke.

Now that you're envisioning a pipe with most, all, or even more components...what type of pipe are you picturing? The fist one that comes to mind is likely the type of pipe you prefer to use or is maybe your dream pipe – either way...THAT is your spirit pipe, the type you are.

"I'm picturing a pipe,” you say, “but I don't know what the heck it's called!” Well, I've got you covered again my smoky friend!

Let's look at some different types of devices and decide:

First, we will begin with the One-Hitter, as it is the simplest pipe but also the most classic and easily transportable. These are ready to pack-n-go. Complete with most of our basic components, they're ease of use, and (usually) reasonable prices, one-hitters are a common fave and go-to for many.
Maybe you like the simplicity of the one-hit-wonders, but are a bit fancier than just a simple tube. Are you a crystal pipe? Cut to perfection and smoothed down to relieve you of any sharpness? Or perhaps a hand-blown glass piece, artfully crafted and worked. These pipes include the main components of our previous friends, but require the eye of an artist to reach peak perfection.

On to a third kind of pipe, and some of the most ornate types: Water Pipes. Now, some of these can be simple and minimal as well – it all depends on your preference. Some are one-chambered and very neat in appearance...while others can be glass-blown and twisted into magnificent works of fine art, with prices to match. I have included images of each kind – your choice as to which type of water pipe you are!

An even more ornate (and similar-in-appearance) device is the Hookah. Wiki says a Hookah is defined as a single or multi-stemmed instrument for vaporizing and smoking flavored tobacco (Mu‘assel), or sometimes cannabis, whose vapor or smoke is passed through a water basin—often glass-based—before inhalation.



Lastly, but certainly not least, is the Vaporizer. Stealthy and easy to grab-n-go, vape pens are definitely in vogue right now. You can't go to a concert or social event in general without seeing at least ten people blowing literal clouds of smoke from the tiny devices. You are a vape if you are a trendy kind of guy/gal/other, who stays on top of what is new and hot. You're on the go and don't care what people think.
